Post-war ranches, remodels and infill
Much of Wheat Ridge was built in the 1940s through 1960s: brick and frame ranches on big lots, many with full or partial basements. Neighborhoods like Bel Aire, Paramount Heights and the streets off 38th Avenue are seeing a wave of remodels — opened-up kitchens, finished basements, new windows — and some lots have been redeveloped with modern farmhouse or contemporary infill.
Remodels leave a specific kind of painting work: new drywall next to old plaster, patched walls where walls came down, and rooms that no longer match each other. We handle the transitions, prime new drywall properly, and bring the whole house back into one coherent color story.
Color for low ranches and finished basements
Ranches have long, low rooms where light comes mostly from one side. That makes the far wall noticeably darker than the window wall, and cool colors can turn dull. Finished basements in Wheat Ridge are often a big part of the living space and get very little daylight.
We design for that by choosing whites and neutrals with enough warmth to hold up in shadow, and by being deliberate about ceilings — sometimes a touch lighter than standard flat white, sometimes the wall color carried up in smaller rooms. Basements usually get a warm, light palette with a durable finish suited to family rooms and guest suites.
Lead-safe work on older homes
Nearly every original Wheat Ridge ranch predates 1978. When we sand or scrape painted trim, doors or plaster, we follow EPA RRP lead-safe work practices: containment, minimizing dust, and thorough cleanup. Infill homes don't have that requirement but often need help with design — modern farmhouse white-everything can feel stark in Colorado sun.
