Why hire a paint color consultant?
Choosing paint looks simple until you're standing in a paint store holding forty nearly identical whites. Small chips under fluorescent lights tell you very little about how a color will look across a whole wall in your house, next to your floors, at 4 p.m. in January. Most people end up buying several sample quarts, painting patches, and still feeling unsure.
A color consultant shortens that process and raises the odds you'll love the result. Rather than picking one room at a time, we look at the whole home: which rooms connect, what's staying (floors, counters, tile, fireplace stone), how much light each room gets and from which direction. Then we design a palette where each room works on its own and the house feels cohesive as you move through it.
Designing for Denver-area light
Denver sits around 5,280 feet, and the foothills climb past 8,000. At altitude, there's less atmosphere filtering the sun, so daylight is stronger, bluer and higher in contrast than in most of the country. Practically, that means:
- Cool grays and blue-leaning whites can read colder and starker than the chip suggests.
- Saturated colors can look more intense in sunny rooms.
- West-facing rooms swing from cool midday light to warm, orange sunset light.
- North-facing rooms get steady but cool light that drains warmth from colors.
We design with these effects in mind and test colors in place before you commit. For more detail, read our guide to the best paint colors for Colorado light.

How in-home color design works
In Golden and the west Denver foothills — Golden, Lakewood, Arvada, Wheat Ridge, Applewood, Genesee, Evergreen and Conifer — color consultation is delivered through our Paint Plan. It includes:
- A 60-minute walkthrough where we look at every room and talk about how you live.
- A Matterport 3D scan and measured floor plan.
- A room-by-room plan: walls, trim, ceilings, doors, sheens and accent walls with brand and color code.
- Mockups of the colors on photos of your rooms.
- Large sample swatches placed on your walls.
- A fixed-price painting quote, with the $499 fee credited if you book.
How remote color design works
If you're elsewhere in the Denver metro — Denver proper, Littleton, Englewood, Westminster, Broomfield, Highlands Ranch — and you have a painter or plan to DIY, remote color design is a good fit. You send photos of each room (ideally morning and afternoon), note window directions, and include photos of the finishes you're keeping. We may schedule a short video call to walk the house together.
We then deliver a color plan with recommended colors, sheens and trim, plus suggested sample swatches to order and test. Remote design can't see light as precisely as being in the room, so we always recommend testing large samples on your walls before painting. Ask us about current remote pricing using the form below.
What makes a good color plan
A good plan does more than list paint names. It explains where each color starts and stops, which sheen goes where and why, how trim and ceilings tie the house together, and which rooms can handle more personality. It should be specific enough that any competent painter can follow it without guessing. That's the standard we hold our plans to, whether we paint them or not.
